1. Purpose of Meeting
Tony opened the meeting and explained that the Chapel Computer Club’s new digital fish required a proper name.
It was agreed that continuing to refer to it as “the fish” was workable in the short term but lacked dignity.
2. Names Suggested
The following names were suggested:
- Pixel
- Fin95
- Ctrl Alt Delphin
- Bubbles
- Carp Diem
- Brian
- Gill Gates
- The Screensaver
Tony noted that names involving advanced computer humour might not be understood by all Chapel users, but as the fish belonged to the Computer Club some level of technical reference was acceptable.
Martin said “The Screensaver” had merit because the fish was technically being kept on screen. Geoff said this was misleading unless the fish actually prevented screen burn-in. Nobody knew if it did.
Jacob supported “Bubbles” because it was a normal fish name. Priya put up a very convincing argument that “Brian” was a normal name too.
3. Discussion
Members discussed whether the fish should have a humorous name, a human name, or a name connected to computers.
Tony expressed concern that a purely human name could lead to confusion in minutes, particularly if future records stated that “Brian was not fed on Thursday.”
Geoff asked whether the fish had any underlying file name that should be preserved for technical consistency. Tony said the file name was not relevant to public-facing fish identity.
4. Decision
After another short debate members agreed that Priya's suggestion was the strongest, with the stipulation that it should always be recorded in full. This would prevent the aforementioned problem with record keeping.
From this point forward, the fish will be named:
Brian the fish
The decision was carried by general agreement.
5. Any other business
Tony raised a toast to Ichomancer for their part in ensuring that Brian the fish was provided a safe environment in which he could thrive. Geoff stated that Ichomancer had since reported on the chapel's neocities feed that 'the meet-and-greet went very well' and that Brian the fish was 'swimming around happily'.
Martin and Jacob confirmed that Brian the fish looked pretty happy when they had checked him earlier.
Action: Tony asked Geoff to pass on everyone's thanks to Ichomancer.
6. Close
There being no further fish-naming business, the meeting closed at 19:23.
