Newsletter signups

If you sign up for Chapel News, we collect your email address so we can send occasional Tin Chapel updates.

Newsletter signups are handled through Buttondown. When you submit the form, your email address is sent to Buttondown and stored there as part of the Chapel News subscriber list. We also send Buttondown a small note saying that the signup came from the Tin Chapel website.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link in any Chapel News email.

Buttondown may process technical information needed to provide the newsletter service, such as delivery, confirmation, unsubscribe and email performance information. Buttondown's own privacy policy explains how it handles data: buttondown.com/legal/privacy.

Guestbook submissions

If guestbook submissions are open, we collect the display name, optional location, optional website address, how you found us (if you choose to tell us), and your message. Entries and visitor replies are reviewed before publication. Approved messages and their supplied details are displayed publicly. Replies appear with the original entry as a conversation. Website addresses become public links.

Please do not include private information in a guestbook message.

For moderation and spam prevention, guestbook submissions may also store technical information such as a hashed IP address, hashed browser or user-agent information, submission time and the page the form was submitted from.

Polls and consultation questions

Some pages may include simple polls or consultation questions. You can view and answer these without registering. When you vote, we record the poll question and selected answer so that totals can be shown. We do not ask for your name or contact details for poll voting.

The site may store a small setting in your browser to remember that you have voted in a particular poll and to show you the current results. This is not an account and does not identify you personally.

Poll results are used for Chapel administration, public consultation and website improvement. We may refer to aggregate poll results in notices, records or reports.

Submitted forms

If you submit a completed form through the website, the information you provide may be kept for administration, record keeping, safety, compliance and Chapel decision-making. Some forms may relate to matters that are later summarised or referenced in public notices, records or reports.

We may publish non-sensitive information from submitted forms where it is relevant to Chapel administration or the public record.

We will not publish personal contact details, private financial information, or detailed accident and health information.

Contact messages

If you use the contact form, the form opens your email app. If you choose to send the message, your name, email address, subject and message are sent by email and may be kept so we can respond and manage Chapel administration.

Website analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how people use the website, such as which pages are visited and how visitors move around the site. Google Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies and may collect technical information such as device, browser, approximate location, referring page and pages viewed.

We use this information to measure site traffic and improve the website. We do not use Google Analytics to identify individual visitors, and we do not send newsletter email addresses or guestbook messages to Google Analytics.

What we do not do

How long information is kept

Newsletter email addresses are kept for as long as you remain subscribed to Chapel News.

Guestbook submissions may be kept for moderation, record keeping and display on the website if approved.

Analytics information is kept according to the retention settings in Google Analytics.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from Chapel News at any time using the link in a newsletter email.

You can block or delete cookies using your browser settings. This may affect how some websites work, but Tin Chapel should remain readable.

You can also use Google's browser add-on to opt out of Google Analytics: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
